Since high school and an ill fated early attempt at the UofA, I worked at the mines south of Tucson for a time. Uncle Sam came knocking and I joined the US Army Reserve unit in Tucson. During this period I applied and was accepted to the Tucson Police Dept. Spent over seven years as an officer. I then decided to pursue my $econd million in the insurance industry, I'd given up on the first million. After several years I found selling an intangible wasn't for me. I then became involved with companies in the janitorial supply business.

The last nine years I have worked for a national company as local Project Manager contracted to America Online to provide security services for their sites across the country. In Tucson, we have responsible of three AOL buildings. Keeps me busy. I'm married (Janie) 24 years. She is from Texas originally and we met while attending Dale Carnegie classes. Have three daughters and four grandchildren. They really keep us busy. The picture is of myself and family including daughters and their families.
Look forward to seeing everyone in October.

I also married my high school sweetheart, Richard Varela, who graduated the year before we did. Arte Moreno, owner of the California Angels, actually introduced us. We are big Angels fans! Anyway, Dick drove an orange fiat with the name"Wild Chili" on the side. How could I resist? We have been married almost 40 years and moved to Mission Viejo,Ca. in '86.

We have 3 grown children who live close by. Our oldest son, Brent, is a professional photographer. He graduated from Brooks Institute in Santa Barbara. I can't ever get him to take a family picture-this year for sure will be the year. He has an 11year old daughter. Alicia is a speech pathologist specializing in children with Autism, who now stays at home with her 2 kids-3 and 4. Our youngest, Michael is a mailman, and has a son who is almost 3. We sure do enjoy them. Dick works with his brother as grading contractors. I work in education and am a job developer for our school district. I work with all the special education students. I develop partnerships with businesses who hire our students. Very rewarding!

Our lives changed dramarically in 2001 when I was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. Your life can change in the blink of an eye! I am currently in remission. Since then, Dick and I have become involved in Leukemia/Lymphoma Society's Team in Training. We fundraise to help find a cure for blood cancers. Dick has ridden 4 century(100 miles) rides around Lake Tahoe, to name a few. Off he goes every Saturday on his bike. I have been asked this year to be the honoree for the Walk Team. I am training to walk a the PF Chang's Rock N Roll Marathon in Phoenix in January. My daughter will run the half. I train with a wonderful group of women every Saturday as well. He goes one way, I go the other, then home to the couch. We count our blessings every day and look forward to seeing everybody.

This was taken at a recent trip to Texas. On the left is my husband a retired diplomatic and active golfer, me (not hiding just happen to be the smallest one in the family) a working diplomat and daughter Margot, a struggling singer, pianist in LA. On the right is my son Jay a lawyer who has political interests, his girlfriend Elysia from San Antonio, and daughter Elise finishing up her second year of internship in Phoenix as a family therapist.

My major adult interests have been in the natural healing arts and spiritual pursuits, primarily in the various branches of yoga. I lived 4 years at a beautiful yoga ashram with a large holistic health retreat in Pennsylvania in the late 70s and 7 years at Krishna Temples in California and England in the 80s. I made a couple of amazing pilgrimages to India, and quite a bit of travel in Europe and Mexico.

I returned to Tucson in 1990 where I co-owned a small moving business for 8 years with my former husband. In 1999 my current husband and I bought an organic u-pick orchard in Dragoon, AZ, which we operated for 4 years. I have raised 2 beautiful children, a daughter 32 who is an herbalist in Oregon, and a fun 17 year old son, who is a high school senior.I’m now semi retired, but still active in yoga, massage therapy, Reiki, hosting vegetarian dinner club gatherings, hospice volunteer, and, for fun and to keep life in balance, I line dance and perform with the infamous "Trashy Women of Cochise County".
